Picture this: a lounge chair pulled into a bright patch of daylight, laptop perched on my knees, fingers tapping the keys the instant a line of dialogue or a shard of memory dives across my thoughts. That’s my writing studio—no kitchen tables, no fluorescent bulbs, just the unapologetic warmth of the sun and the stubborn insistence of a story that refuses to wait.

I’m Alexis, mother to two wonderfully off-the-wall teenagers and a lifelong collector of moments that don’t leave me alone until I untangle them on the page. I began writing in 2020, right after three missionary trips showed me hunger and homelessness up close: empty bowls, unfinished houses, and the quiet courage people summon when the world forgets them. Later that same year I became a foster parent, and the urgency to tell these hidden stories only grew louder. By early 2022 I was working at a homeless shelter and soup kitchen, sitting across tables from folks whose greatest needs—food and a safe place to sleep—were somehow the hardest needs to meet. Listening—really listening—changed me. Writing became the only way to pass that change on.

Since then my process has been anything but tidy. Some weeks I pound out thousands of words in a blur of inspiration; other weeks the cursor blinks at me like a dare. I’m weird, fun, occasionally gruff, and sometimes downright chaotic—you’ll get all of it here. Perfection isn’t on my checklist, but honesty is.

This blog is my open door. Expect sunlit drafting sessions, raw reflections on foster care and frontline shelter work, and the unfiltered lessons that come from chasing an audacious dream I once shelved out of fear. If my imperfect routines help you see your own courage more clearly, then every unpolished sentence will have been worth it.

Got questions? Curious about the behind-the-scenes realities of hunger, homelessness, or foster care? I’d love to connect. Drop a comment, share a story, or just say hi. We’re in this messy, hopeful journey together.

With sunlight and sincerity,

Alexis
